Raising Little Monster: Chapter 8 - Can Adding Points Become Reality?

Tang Xiao panted and rushed into the classroom. At this moment, the class committee had already begun to hand out the papers. The class committee froze momentarily when he saw him, shrugged his shoulders, and pointed toward the podium.

In reality, the 18-year-old boy turned around stiffly and saw a professor with white sideburns sitting on the podium, looking at him with a smile.

The students in Class 1 of biology all knew that old man Li didn’t like to smile. Once he smiled, the happier he smiled, the angrier he would be inside. It meant that someone was going to have bad luck.

Now, this smile of at least 60 degrees was no different from failing at the end of the semester in Tang Xiao’s eyes.

Tang Xiao immediately bowed and admitted his mistake. “I’m sorry, professor. I was late because of the traffic jam on the road!”

“Go back and sit down. Don’t delay everyone’s time.” Old man Li said with a smile on his face.

Tang Xiao hurriedly went to find his seat and finally found a place to sit down with the help of his roommate’s raised hand. As soon as his butt fell on the chair, old man Li’s voice rang slowly.

“By the way, if you fail this quiz. Your usual points will be gone.”

Tang Xiao instantly put on a mask of pain but didn’t dare to say anything for fear of the punishment escalation. “Yes.”

The class committee continued to send out the papers. Tang Xiao glanced at the Buddhist Monk with a sad face. Before he could say anything, he heard old man Li say in an icy voice, “And if I catch you cheating on this exam, you know the consequences.”

Several roommates who had originally attempted to make eye contact ith Tang Xiao suddenly looked at each other.

Well, there’s no way out, just admit it.

Tang Xiao took the test paper in the class committee’s hand as if he were dead, intending to fill in all the blanks he could.

Being able to be admitted to this key university, Tang Xiao’s learning ability was not bad. However, he entered one of the biology pits. He delayed a lot of courses to play games on weekdays. Under normal circumstances, he scored 60 points in the final exam to survive.

Old man Li's quiz was challenging. It included both basic and advanced knowledge. Even the top students struggled to get a perfect score. The class had a 50% passing rate, and Tang Xiao was usually among those who failed.

En, usually.

Tang Xiao looked at the test paper in a daze, reading the questions from the beginning to the end, turning the page, reading from the beginning to the end, and turning the page again.

The rustling sound of turning pages attracted the people on the left and right who were about to put down their pens to look over. Old man Li frowned and asked, “What? Is your test paper wrong?”

“Uh, no.”

“If not, be quiet and don’t disturb the others.”

Tang Xiao shut up at once, looking down at the test paper in his hand. He just wanted to ask if this paper was too simple, but he didn’t dare to ask, in case old man Li took the wrong test paper. No one pointed this out. Wouldn’t he be the sinner of the entire class if he said this?

But it was really simple. He could answer all the questions above.

Tang Xiao wrote down the answer with his pen smoothly, not noticing the gradually widening eyes of the Buddhist Monk next to him after seeing it.

As if enlightened, the moment he saw the question, the knowledge points appeared in his mind one by one mischievously and leaked out from the tip of his pen like a flood.

By the time he came back to his senses, he had already finished writing both sides of the paper.

According to his habits, he had long been ready to hand in the papers and wait for the trial with a stable mentality, but today he was just caught late by old man Li. It was better to be low-key.

When the hour was over, everyone had handed in their papers. Tang Xiao slowly blended in among the crowd to hand in his papers, striving to be inconspicuous, and then hooked up with his roommates and left the classroom.

As soon as he left the exam room, there was an uproar. Different answers were flying around. Ba Jie casually remarked, “This test paper is really hard. Old man Li wants to beat us ah!”

“Who says it’s not? He must be looking at the fact that it’s going to be a vacation soon, using these test questions to give us a kick in the pants so that none of us can feel at ease during the vacation,” Sha Wujing sighed repeatedly.

The group name of their dormitory was ‘Journey to the West’. The reason for this was mainly because the four people in the dormitory character were vaguely suitable for the master and three disciples, a Buddhist Monk nagging, Ba Jie foodie, Sha Wujing’s ruthless straight man.

Tang Xiao’s remarks in the group and other people’s mobile phones were naturally Sun Wukong. The reason he could afford the name of the Great Sage was purely because Tang Xiao often stepped on the edge of the counselor’s patience like a legendary bird spreading its wings. When most of the students in the freshman year had not yet figured out the way, they didn’t dare to make a fuss to skip class, but Tang Xiao wasn’t seen at all, even for formality. Therefore, he was the monkey who fought the Buddha.

Buddhist Monk: “Eh, by the way, how can you write so fast this time? It can’t be deliberately perfunctory, right? Old man Li can’t see it.”

“How can I? Of course, it is because this quiz is too simple.” Tang Xiao blurted out, “I still want to ask. Do you really find it difficult? I still think that old man Li wouldn’t come to the classroom only to realize that the question was wrong and had no choice but to let us do the test.”

Ba Jie, Buddhist Monk and Sha Wujing looked at each other.

“En? What’s wrong?”

“Do you think… it’s too simple?” Ba Jie had a strange expression. The corners of his mouth twitched, while Sha Wujing was staring at Tang Xiao with a kind of ‘someone come quickly, there’s someone here acting pretentiously’.

“Yeah. Don’t you guys think so?” The smile on Tang Xiao’s mouth froze.

“What is the major component of the cell wall of gram-positive bacteria?” Buddhist Monk asked coldly.

“Peptidoglycan and Teichoic acid interspersed within.” Tang Xiao answered subconsciously.

“What about the composition of drug-resistant plasmid?”

“Resistance Transfer Factor(RTF) and Resistance Determinant (r-det).”

“A brief description of the specific receptors on the surface of Staphylococcus aureus.”

Staphylococcus aureus strain's surface contains a protein component called staphylococcal protein A (spa), which binds to the mucopeptide part of the cell wall, and the bacterium produces about 30% of it during the logarithmic growth phase of Staphylococcus aureus division… strains with low PA content have a greater ability to adsorb phage,” Tang Xiao thought for a while and still answered smoothly.*

Buddhist Monk, Ba Jie, and Sha Wujing were shocked. After Ba Jie froze for a while, he hurriedly went to open the book. The other two didn’t move, frowning and trying to remember.

Buddhist Monk: “Fuck. I seem to have written two steps less.”

Sha Wujing: “Fuck. I’ll put other knowledge points on this question.”

Both of them glanced at each other, hugging each other with a face full of confusion.

After Ba Jie flipped through the notes and made sure that Tang Xiao was not talking nonsense, his entire person went bad. “You actually went behind our backs to become competitive!”

“No.” Tang Xiao felt aggrieved. The game record could help him testify.

“Don’t talk about it. Humph, just wait, I’ll memorize the professional book back this time and make you feel competitive!”

“And then not changing anything, right?”

“This time must be an open book!”

Ba Jie left in a rage. Tang Xiao looked at the remaining two. “You guys have to believe me. I've been playing games and haven’t read much.”

Sha Wujing sighed and praised professionally, “Ahh, right, right.”

Buddhist Monk’s face was full of kindness. “It’s okay for you to become competitive. I’m glad to see you turn back to the shore. Come and study with us.”

At first glance, they didn’t believe him.

Well, not to mention them, Tang Xiao himself also felt it outrageous. When did he understand so many things? He didn’t review it at all, but when he had to use the knowledge, it was as if it popped up on its own.

At this time, he remembered the biology lv1 in the game.

If anything, he upgraded his biology experience before quitting the game.

But it’s a game ah? It can’t be, right?

Tang Xiao took out his mobile phone, found the e-book version of the textbook from the documents in the dormitory group, and quickly flipped through it. The knowledge that he originally thought was unfamiliar was extremely familiar. He could even silently memorize some of the content after reading the subsections.

It’s really outrageous!

Tang Xiao froze in place, not even noticing when the classmates left. His brain muddled as he walked stupidly around the campus alone.

The familiar mobile phone rang, and he subconsciously answered it.

“Xiaoxiao?” A gentle female voice came from the other side of the phone. “The school is on vacation, right? Your big brother is also back. The driver has gone to pick you up. Wait at the school gate ah. Let’s have a reunion dinner tonight.”

“Oh, okay mom.” Tang Xiao answered. After hanging up the phone, Tang Xiao walked towards the school entrance with his mobile phone in his pocket as if he was in a trance, still thinking about what had just happened in his mind.

Upon walking to the school gate, the driver was already driving and waiting there. Tang Xiao hesitated for a while after getting into the car and asked the driver to drive to the rental house to take off the game helmet first before going back.

Tang Xiao’s family's conditions were good. His father was a company related to experimental equipment, had a wide range of business, and had cooperated with many university laboratories. His mother was a pianist when she was young and is now a piano teacher. Although she was nearly 45 years old, she was well-maintained. Her face had no wrinkles, exuding a kind of grace and luxury that she had acquired over time.

Seeing the youngest child return, that pair of similar peach blossom eyes were filled with pampering.

“Let mom see. Tsk, you’re too skinny.”

“How can that be, mom?” Tang Xiao couldn’t cry or laugh. “I eat a lot every day, and it’s too much to be fat. By the way, where’s my brother?”

“On the second floor, in your dad’s study. Both of them are talking, so you should be quick-witted when you go.” His mother took another look at the helmet Tang Xiao had brought back and frowned. “Especially don’t take your gaming helmet out. Otherwise, your dad will get angry again.”

“I know. I’ll take it to my room first.” Tang Xiao didn’t want the family gathering to get worse, so he hurriedly went up to the second floor. His room was in the further inside, and he had to pass through the study. Unfortunately, as soon as he passed by, the door of the study opened from the inside.

A man with a calm temperament walked out from inside. He had sword-like eyebrows and starry eyes. Unlike his mother's amorous peach blossom eyes, his eyes were slightly mature and narrow. He had a tall and well-proportioned figure. Even though he was wearing an ordinary black singlet, it gave off an aura reminiscent of the military uniform he used to wear in the army.

The man bumped into Tang Xiao head-on. His thin lips raised, instantly weakening the sharpness brought by his temperament. “Xiaoxiao.”

“Brother, long time no see~” Tang Xiao hugged his long-lost big brother, and was still shocked by his chest muscles. “Hisss, this muscle. It’s envy me to death.”

“Envy? It’s okay. In the next two days, brother will take you to the gym to practice.”

“Spare me. It’s not easy to take two days off. I just want to be a die-hard otaku with peace of mind.” Tang Xiao’s face collapsed, highlighting an admission of defeat.

The man chuckled. The alienation of not seeing him for a few years dissipated between the jokes.

Tang Chen, the eldest brother of the Tang family, was eight years older than Tang Xiao. He went to the army when he was 18 years old. Since then, he has been with his family less, but he cares about Tang Xiao very much as he often brought back gifts.

“Cough.” A low cough came from behind Tang Chen. The curve of Tang Xiao’s mouth stiffened as he looked behind Tang Chen’s shoulder and saw their father’s black face.

He subconsciously put the game helmet back.

“What are you hiding? I already saw it all,” Tang Kaixuan’s face sank. “You only know the game all day long. When can you learn from your big brother? Day by day, you don’t have a serious attitude. Let me see that you have failed the final, and you will…”

“Okay Dad,” Tang Chen hurriedly persuaded. “It’s not easy for our family to get together, so let’s not talk about him. Now that the school is on vacation, who still wants to study during the vacation ah?”

Tang Xiao hurriedly threw a look of gratitude towards his big brother. Being persuaded by his proud eldest son, Tang Kaixuan didn’t continue to pursue the matter and returned to the study with an icy face. Tang Xiao knew the catastrophe was over and hurriedly took the game helmet to his room.

However, according to his understanding of his father, he guessed it wasn’t over yet.

Sure enough, at the family dinner that night, Tang Xiao smothered his food and tried to minimize his presence as his father and big brother chatted. Then, he moved the conversation to him.

“I’ll be relieved if your brother is like you.” Tang Kaixuan sighed. “Even if he enters the army, it’s better than being unemployed.”

The corners of Tang Xiao’s mouth twitched.

“Dad, times are different now. Game anchors are also a job.” Tang Chen was helpless to persuade.

Tang Kaixuan snorted. “What kind of game anchor? Isn’t it an unemployed person? Tell me, where are you dissatisfied with my arrangement? If you want to study biology and have a science background, it’s best to make friends with university professors. I can rest assured to leave the company’s core business in your hands.”

“Isn’t it better to go abroad to study for a business degree ah?”

“That’s right. A couple of my friends’ kids went to the same way. Is this path wrong?”

“That’s right.” Tang Xiao sighed. “But I’m really not interested ah. Dad, don’t worry about leaving the company for me. I don’t even worry about myself. I’m not that good at business. Later, I’ll make a mess and leave our family unprotected in old age.”

Mother Tang snorted out a laugh, and Father Tang felt frustrated. “So, you won’t study hard?  What is the use of playing your stupid games all day? You can try to give me another failed test.”

Tang Xiao’s rebellious heart was aroused. “Then what if I get a high score on the test?”

“High score? A high score is nothing. If you get a perfect score in the final major class, I will no longer dictate your career plan.”

“That’s what you said.”

Father Tang thought he knew his own kid. He gave a disdainful little look. “Heh. You?”

Before he could say anything, suddenly his mobile phone rang.

As soon as he picked up, he immediately showed a warm smile. “Hello, Professor Li, it’s rare ah. Is there something wrong with the laboratory equipment… what? Xiaoxiao? Uh, he’s home for dinner. Did the kid get into some kind of trouble again?”

While speaking, Father Tang didn’t have to look at Tang Xiao with threatening eyes. As soon as the professor made a small report to his father, Tang Xiao only had to wait for the mixed doubles trend.

Mother Tang and Big brother Tang also looked over unconsciously.

Then, they saw a 180-degree change in Father Tang’s expression. “Huh? What? Did this kid get a perfect score on the test? Really? No cheating? Oh, thank you, professor Li. Eh ah, your teaching is good…”

Tang Xiao was silent, stirring the rice grains in the rice bowl.

Father Tang hung up the phone. With an embarrassed face, he sandwiched a piece of braised pork to Tang Xiao. He held it for a long time before stifling a sentence, “Cough. You can study hard on weekdays at school. Right, eat more. Look at how thin you are.”
