Junior Brother Pays Respect to You: Chapter 26 - Things Are Going Badly
Chapter 26: Things Are Going Badly
Qin Zheng looked around and suddenly thought of something. He hurriedly asked, “Where is this place?”
He still hadn’t figured out exactly where they had ended up.
The man smiled faintly and said, “This is, of course, Mount Yujing.”
Qin Zheng thought for a moment before understanding: “You mean this place is inside Mount Yujing!”
No wonder the cave he lived in on the mountain had always been so cold—it was cold to the core!
When Qin Zheng looked up, about to ask the man for his name, he suddenly noticed that the man was becoming more and more transparent.
“What’s happening to you?”
The man looked down at his vanishing body and slowly said, “The seal is about to be lifted. I need to return to my physical body.”
“Whatever you do, don’t come into contact with my body. Get out of here quickly—you’re not my match right now…”
Before he could finish, the man completely disappeared.
At the same time, a cracking sound echoed from above.
Qin Zheng turned to look and saw that cracks had formed in the surrounding ice walls.
It was likely due to the seal being undone.
Qin Zheng pointed overhead and muttered, “Is this—go—to—fall—”
Before he could finish his sentence, Qin Su answered him with actions.
Qin Zheng was pulled along as Qin Su dashed through the ice cave at high speed.
Looking back, Qin Zheng saw that where they had just been standing was now completely blocked by falling ice chunks—and the collapse was spreading in the direction they were running.
Qin Zheng realized they were heading straight for the center of the seal.
He looked behind, then ahead—there was clearly no other way.
Even though the man had warned them, they had no choice but to go this way.
Just as the two of them exited the narrow ice tunnel, the cave behind them collapsed entirely, with falling ice sealing off all the exits.
But things weren’t looking good in the center of the cave either. The ice above had cracked, and ice chunks kept falling.
Qin Zheng quickly looked up and saw that the spiral staircase they had come down had mostly collapsed as well.
This meant they were now completely trapped.
Looking toward the center, the ice pillar that had stood on the square platform had vanished. The man who had been frozen inside it was now lying unsealed on the stone platform, looking like he could awaken at any moment.
Qin Zheng anxiously asked Qin Su, “Can you leave this place now?”
Qin Su closed his eyes and sensed the surroundings. “Not yet. There’s another barrier layered on top of the outer seal—I can’t break through it immediately.”
Qin Zheng pointed with a trembling finger at the man in the center. “What if he wakes up?!”
Qin Su glanced at the platform. A sword had already appeared in his hand as he stepped in front of Qin Zheng and said coldly, “He’s waking up.”
Qin Zheng quickly looked again and saw that the man was getting up.
Judging by the expression on his face, it was clear this was no longer the same soul who had spoken with them earlier.
Or perhaps, the original soul had now been suppressed.
The man stood up and walked directly toward them.
Qin Su immediately raised his sword to meet him in battle. Before leaving, he still remembered to instruct, “Be careful.”
Qin Zheng stood at a distance, watching the fight.
Even armed with a sword, Qin Su couldn't land a blow on the unarmed man.
Because of what the soul had warned them earlier, Qin Su was forced to use his sword defensively to block every move that came close to touching him. This put him at an increasing disadvantage, forcing him to retreat step by step.
Perhaps because the man had just been unsealed, he still looked somewhat weak—so Qin Su could still manage a fight for now.
But Qin Zheng could clearly see that if this dragged on, Qin Su wouldn’t last much longer.
The man seemed to be gradually recovering and was fighting more fiercely with each passing moment.
Qin Zheng anxiously paced in place, frustrated that he couldn’t help at all.
Suddenly, there was a dull thud. Qin Zheng looked up—Qin Su had been defeated and was thrown to the ground by the man.
The speed of it all was startling. From how the battle looked earlier, Qin Su shouldn’t have fallen so quickly.
But this wasn’t the time to dwell on that.
The man clearly didn’t intend to spare Qin Su. He was walking toward him step by step.
Seeing the danger, Qin Zheng rushed forward without hesitation.
No matter what, he had arms and legs—he had to at least try to help. Every second they could delay counted—maybe their master would show up.
When Qin Zheng reached Qin Su, he realized something was wrong—Qin Su looked far weaker than he should have.
Had Qin Zheng not been watching the whole time, he would’ve thought Qin Su had fought a prolonged battle and collapsed from exhaustion.
Qin Su tried to push him away and said, “Run now. Don’t let him touch you. He absorbs spiritual energy and life force!”
Qin Zheng looked at Qin Su, then at the approaching man. He said nothing, just silently picked Qin Su up and ran.
He absorbs spiritual energy and life force? No wonder Qin Su had become so weak.
If that man caught someone, wouldn’t it take just a few moments to kill them?
Whether it was him or Qin Su who died, the past would be altered either way. Better to run while they still could.
However, Qin Zheng knew he couldn’t outrun that man—and this place wasn’t exactly large.
Qin Zheng carried Qin Su to the edge of the cave and sat him down to rest. Then he took Qin Su’s weapon and turned to face the man.
Behind him, Qin Su looked in confusion at his senior brother—and at the sword in his hand.
That sword was formed from Qin Su’s own spirit. It shouldn’t be touchable by anyone else.
But if even Qin Su couldn’t handle this man, Qin Zheng didn’t stand a chance.
Sure enough, the weapon was soon knocked away, and the man grabbed Qin Zheng by the neck.
Qin Zheng now deeply regretted everything—why was he so curious?
If he hadn’t checked what was under that patch of herbs, none of this would have happened.
As everything blurred before his eyes.
Qin Zheng thought: This is the end.
But in the next second, the grip on his neck disappeared.
His eyes were blank as he stared forward. After a long moment, his vision returned, and he turned to find Qin Su had somehow made it to his side.
The man now stood right in front of them both.
Qin Zheng clutched his throat and coughed painfully. His throat felt like it was on fire.
But what puzzled him was—why had the man suddenly stopped attacking them? He looked like he was searching for something.
Then, as the man passed through him, Qin Zheng realized—the strange thing wasn’t the man, but him and Qin Su.
The man seemed to be looking for them—but couldn’t see them. It was as if they now existed in a space invisible to him.
“Are you okay?”
Qin Su’s weak voice came from beside him.
Qin Zheng rubbed his neck and said hoarsely, “Just a sore throat.”
“Are you sure he really absorbs life force? He had me by the neck for ages, and I didn’t feel a thing.”
This earned him a strange look from Qin Su.
But Qin Su said nothing. He just closed his eyes and slumped backward.
Qin Zheng quickly caught him—he had passed out.
Seeing him like this reminded Qin Zheng of that time in the forest, years ago, when he’d used some strange technique and fainted afterward.
Startled, Qin Zheng glanced toward the man in the distance and saw he still hadn’t noticed them.
Which meant whatever was cloaking them—making them invisible—was still in effect.
