ALIBEC: Chapter 70 - It Wasn’t a Mistake

[Winnnnd——!! Feng-bao, my god! I knew you wouldn’t let us down, QuQ!!]

[So handsome, my Yun Yun Yun Yun Yun!! You really dared to go for that — I’m dying from how amazing that was!]

[Feng-bao and God Yun’s coordination keeps getting better and better. Is it okay to say that? He dodged Cola’s double control by switching positions — Kele must be furious.]

[Damn, this tiny teamfight nearly made me stop breathing… Gaogao’s sudden R-flash scared me stiff, thank goodness Feng-bao reacted fast!]

[ I thought with no Flash or ult, Gaogao was dead for sure — turned my head for a second, and boom, my son Xuxu’s back home was gone… I almost turned off the stream right there.]

[Holding my breath 1… anyone watching would think I’m practicing swimming in front of the computer.]

[Honestly, every time it’s the mid-jungle duo carrying the team, Feng-bao’s under so much pressure… Gaogao and Cola are strong, but compared to HTG or TMX’s bot lane, they’re still a bit lacking. They’ve practically turned their marksman into a Teletubby… PNG might’ve been fine placing mid-table before, but if they want to go further, the kid’s gotta step up!!]

[Forget everything else — can someone from the future tell me who actually wins this game?? This isn’t how PNG used to play at all??? I’m too young to be dying from watching a match!!]

[ Unreal, now even live streams are doing spoilers?]

That Baron teamfight didn’t just leave the audience breathless — both teams’ nerves were stretched to the limit.

When the dust finally settled, Lin Zhaoxu clapped his hands joyfully in the fountain: “66666—! PNG’s mid-jungle, best mid-jungle! I can’t believe they turned that around!!”

Cheng Su was speechless: “Fountain commander, please stop shouting.”

“3 for 3 — not a full turnaround, but they survived the most dangerous moment.”

Sui Ning also exhaled, pressing recall. “Once we revive, clear waves and set vision. The enemy’s burned all their skills — as long as we don’t get our Baron stolen, we’re fine.”

Ji Yunyu nodded. “Mm, I’ll clear the top jungle first. I’ll keep an eye on things.”

With no ultimates or summoner spells, FR wouldn’t dare take a direct fight against PNG. Sui Ning was sure of that. But he also knew — with FR’s experienced shotcalling, if PNG slipped even once, FR could snatch Baron in an instant.

He pursed his lips, calculating: the gold difference should be within 1,500 now. Either team losing Baron could trigger a collapse. Their marksman’s scaling wasn’t great yet — they needed more time…

As he thought, Sui Ning instinctively hit the tab key, his eyes lingering on Gaogao’s portrait.

——

On the commentary desk, both casters were visibly excited.

Li Yin said animatedly, “That was FR’s strongest, most dangerous mid-game push, but PNG managed to neutralize it! The gold gap’s been narrowed again — only 1,500 now!”

“At this point, a 1,500 gold difference basically means nothing!” Chao Mi said firmly. “The biggest credit this round goes to PNG’s mid and jungle duo!”

Chao Mi: “Wind and Cloud both stood tall in the clutch moment! They turned the tide when everything was about to collapse, reversing the momentum with pure skill — a 3-for-3 trade!”

“If not for that double kill, PNG’s situation could be summed up in two words — game over!”

Li Yin nodded. “Exactly. PNG actually had the advantage at the start of the fight, but Gaogao’s R-flash hit thin air for some reason, putting him in serious danger.”

“But Col’s follow-up was beautiful — he split the battlefield and gave Reling room to play. Up to that point, FR’s execution was nearly perfect.”

Li Yin continued, “The real turning point was when Fan’en and Fanlei turned back — Wind’s ultimate came at the perfect moment. It not only dodged Reling and Col’s abilities, it also opened a window for Cloud to enter the fight. Because Reling failed to instantly kill Fan’en, the entire chain reaction followed.”

“Thinking about it now, even though FR had four surviving members, they were all low and skill-less. For them to start Baron while PNG’s mid-jungle was still alive — wasn’t that too risky?”

Li Yin mentioned the point gently.

But deep down, she knew — in that situation, even if the gods themselves were shotcalling, FR had to start that Baron.

Chao Mi rubbed his chin. “I don’t think the Baron call was wrong — but Gaogao’s R-flash hitting air? I honestly don’t get that. If he’d held onto those two key abilities for the follow-up, FR had no reason to lose that fight.”

[True… if they’d just played it safe, FR had the advantage.]

[Come on, are we really starting the blame game now? Gaogao’s always been hot-headed — if he saw Wind misposition, of course, he’d go in. That’s just who he is.]

[But he did throw though.]

[ “Rational analysis” guy, what rank are you exactly?]

“Messed up…? There’s no such thing as ‘throwing’ in a match. What viewers call throwing is just a gamble gone wrong.”

In stream 48100, two amateur commentators were also watching the chat.

Cheng Wensheng explained, “FR knew Wind had no ult. Wind mispositioned, so Yu Gao’s R-flash was a calculated risk.”

“If it worked and he killed Wind, FR would’ve won that fight blindfolded. Even if it failed, they still forced out Wind’s Flash.”

“With no ult and no Flash, Fan’en is basically a walking target. White Bird’s build had zero damage — so who do you think the real core of that fight was?”

Crossing his arms, Cheng Wensheng spoke calmly: “When the fight started, why do you think Xiaopang immediately went for Fan’en? Use your brains.”

“If Feng-bao hadn’t played perfectly and denied Xiaopang’s entry, the fight would’ve been over in seconds. Even losing the fight here wouldn’t have been fatal — FR’s comp still had its power spike left. They had more chances.”

[…Damn, that level of analysis? All that in just a few seconds?]

[I’ve become a fan of Gaogao after this. He’s so daring… does he not fear being blamed at all? If FR had lost that fight 5 for 3, Gaogao’s R-flash would’ve been the #1 trending topic (lmao).]

[Hmm… how should I put it, maybe my Feng-bao bias is too strong, but I really don’t think Feng-bao would misposition at a time like that… If his reaction had been even a bit slower, Feng-bao would’ve been trending for criticism right alongside Gaogao (sigh).]

[ True, but… Feng-bao’s human too. Everyone makes mistakes — if not today, then tomorrow. I keep telling myself not to put so much pressure on him, QuQ.]

The barrage of comments scrolled by at lightning speed.

After watching silently for a while, Meng Xiyue finally spoke. “I don’t think it was a positioning mistake.”

Cheng Wensheng raised an eyebrow. “That ward at the jungle entrance? PNG saw it being placed. If he knew there was vision there, why would Feng-bao walk into that spot unless it was a mistake?”

“No matter how fast your reaction, there’s a limit. Yu Gao’s fake pre-flash animation before his R-flash was incredibly subtle — practically impossible to dodge.”

Meng Xiyue said calmly, “Unless it was a predicted Flash.”

Cheng Wensheng chuckled. “If that was a prediction, then Wind deliberately baited Yu Gao’s R-flash. That’s some serious confidence.”

Meng Xiyue didn’t reply.

[Even though I don’t fully understand all the pro-level mind games, I’m honored to share the same opinion as the head Feng-bao’s fan… which basically makes me a certified Wind fan too! (rose)]

[…I know God Yue’s still regretting not being able to kidnap — I mean, recruit — Feng-bao, but isn’t this praise a bit much, emmm]

[Overhyping him 1… Gaogao’s still one of the best marksmen in the country; he’s not some nave fool who falls for every bait.]

[Even FMVP-level Feng-bao’s fans can’t praise without getting argued with? Then how can a humble Platinum-rank fan like me dare say anything…]

[Stop arguing, stop arguing — time for the Reply! Is the broadcast director eating crap or what? Why isn’t the replay up yet!]

[I don’t care about R-flashes or whatever, I just want to know who wins this match, aaaargh!! (painful face meme)]

The match continued, with both teams entering a brief lull for farming.

Taking the chance, the big screen began replaying the previous Baron fight. And since the broadcast crew could access both teams’ comms, they wouldn’t miss the chance to air Sui Ning and his teammates’ initial conversation.

After confirming there was no sensitive content, the director split the screen in half — showing both teams’ voice chat side by side, with close-up camera shots of all ten players at the bottom.

Over twenty thousand fans in the stadium and more than sixty million online viewers were brought back to three minutes earlier.

Both teams were once again around the Baron pit.

When Wei Ye’s nervous voice asked if they should take the fight, even knowing the outcome, the audience tensed up.

Then came Sui Ning’s calm, even voice over the headset:

[Not great timing… My ult’s not ready yet.]

At the same moment, Xu Zhiyi said: [Brother Feng… mid’s ult isn’t up yet!]

[???? I’m dying at the way he says “Brother Feng”!]

[Help, my Yi— how can you sound so respectful toward Feng-bao while simultaneously wanting to murder him? Do you even realize your eyes were glowing red during that 1v1??]

[Hahahaha, Yi chasing Feng-bao looks like a dog who just spotted a steak bone!]

[Am I the only one hyperventilating?? I’ve heard it a hundred times, but I’ll say it again — Feng-bao’s voice is so damn nice to listen to heeheehee]

[ Yeah, you only dare to swoon because they won that fight. If they’d lost, we’d be crying instead.]

[Wouldn’t cry — just have a heart attack and get hospitalized on the spot (lmao)]

But before the chat could finish its jokes, Sui Ning calmly dropped the now-iconic line:

[I’ll go bait some cooldowns first.]

[It’s fine. I’ll see if I can bait out their marksman’s Flash. If we kill the marksman, the fight’s ours.]

Audience: ……

Audience: ……???? Wait, hold on, what???

Meng Xiyue let out a soft laugh on stream.

[……uh?????]

[So… so Gaogao really fell for it——???]

[PNG’s players were stunned, I’m stunned — wait, seriously, in the river??]

[Holy crap… if this wasn’t live comms from the actual match, I’d think it was a scripted voice clip — is he really that good?!??]

[Bro I’m just a walking question mark now. Feng-bao what are you even doing?? Please stop showing off — I’ve officially run out of words to praise you with! Don’t make me kneel!]

[…I admit defeat. I used to hate these so-called “hyped” players, but I’m officially converted. I hereby declare Wind the undisputed king!!]

[When Gaogao confidently said “look at his position!,” I couldn’t help but grin like a villain (lmao)]

[I’m an FR fan and I’m convinced… Reling, you really picked yourself a good dad.]

[ 1… I used to think the “Reling x Wind” pairing was just for hype, but nope — turns out it’s literally father and son…]

“…Was it really a misplay?” Meng Xiyue mimicked Cheng Wensheng’s tone, asking slowly.

Cheng Wensheng immediately looked away, lifted his cup, and took a sip of water — pretending not to hear.

——

Even though PNG pulled off a beautiful dragon team fight at the 20-minute mark, FR didn’t lose heart.

As Cheng Wensheng had analyzed, FR continued to apply pressure in the mid-game, creating plenty of trouble for PNG. Fortunately, PNG’s composition wasn’t afraid of head-on team fights in the late game; relying on Fan’en and Fanlei’s strong mid-game combat abilities, they successfully dragged the match out to 30 minutes.

With his core equipment finally completed, marksman White Bird was at last able to show his true strength.

At 32 minutes and 46 seconds, another crucial Baron team fight broke out.

Sui Ning originally planned to bait Yu Gao’s positioning again, but after repeated reminders from Mu Xuesong, Yu Gao had learned his lesson and didn’t fall for it this time.

Mu Xuesong urged, “Stay calm. This next fight will decide it all! I’ll look for an opening to engage — just don’t do anything rash. We’re counting on your damage in the team fight!”

“I know,” Yu Gao replied.

At 34 minutes and 12 seconds, Wei Ye, who had been under pressure the entire match, finally found an opportunity for a teleport flank.

PNG distracted FR’s attention in the frontline, and by the time Mu Xuesong noticed the teleport light flaring in the brush, it was already too late.

“Look—at—my—position!!!”

As if one with his bear, Wei Ye practically roared, “I’ve—got—the AD—he flashed!! AD AD AD no flash!!”

“Nice engage! Focus the Brother Spear!—Pull back a bit!”

Yu Gao’s eyelid twitched. “...Where the hell did that bear come from—”

He hadn’t even finished his sentence before his teammates’ chaotic shouting drowned him out: “Help, help, help!! Gao-zi!!”

“Shit, Fan’en popped his ult! Fan’en’s ulting!!”

Tang Yu was panicking too. “Can’t control, can’t control—just CC his brother first! Careful, Fanlei’s next swing is an empowered bleed—”

“Slow down, slow down, watch the frontline!”

“Bear’s out of HP!”

[FR_Gaogao (Soul-Piercing Spear) has slain PNG_Myerii (Thunderfury)!]

Wei Ye’s booming voice followed immediately: “Brothers, I can’t tank anymore!!”

“Kill that AD, focus him!”

“Slow down, don’t rush—damn, why is that Brother Spear’s damage so high?”

[FR_Gaogao (Soul-Piercing Spear) has slain PNG_Erllit (Radiant Goddess)!

[Double Kill!]

[PNG_Cloud (Shadowbane) has slain FR_Gaogao (Soul-Piercing Spear)!]

“Nice, nice! Watch the front!! Frontline!!”

As soon as the fight began, both marksmen were chased all over the place. Yu Gao finally couldn’t hold out and went down.

Luckily, White Bird had stronger self-preservation mechanics, so Lin Zhaoxu survived a little longer. “I’m out of ult, watch me!!”

Sui Ning: “Fran on the left... it’s fine, I solo-killed him.”

[PNG_Wind (Specter of Shadow) has slain FR_Reling (Phantom Trickster)!]

Yu Gao’s death managed to take down PNG’s top and support, but with both of FR’s carries dead, the team collapsed completely.

Their mid inhibitor turret had long been destroyed, and with the 34-minute team fight lost, there was no point in running. The remaining members struggled to resist but were eventually wiped out by PNG in a 3-for-5 team fight.

“Nice, nice — end it!”

“Wuhu~ finally, that was tough.”

With no one left to defend, the base was like a fish on a chopping board, easily destroyed by PNG.

Just one misstep — FR couldn’t help but feel regret.

Mu Xuesong was the first to speak up in encouragement: “Good work, everyone. It’s fine, we’ll take the next one.”

As soon as he finished speaking, FR’s base exploded.

Victory!

“Congratulations to PNG!” Chao Mi clapped from the commentary desk. “They take the first game 1:0! That was intense!”

Li Yin patted her chest in relief. “That was such a close one — there were several times I thought PNG was going to throw, but their final fight was beautifully executed! Still, FR put up a very strong fight and showed great style!”

Chao Mi nodded. “Yeah, even though the gold difference wasn’t huge, PNG’s bot lane was behind the whole time — their mid-jungle duo basically carried them back. I think the next match won’t be so easy; Fan’en’s probably going to get banned.”

“Mm... I actually think FR might continue to target the bot lane in the draft,” Li Yin added. “After all, there aren’t that many strong laning marksmen left.”

What she didn’t say aloud was this: even with White Bird, they couldn’t win lane. If FR got bold and went for a 5-marksmen ban, Yu Gao might not care — but PNG’s bot lane would definitely crumble.

However, FR’s coach, Big Orange, clearly wanted to play it safe.

He knew well that if all marksmen were open, FR had the upper hand — all they needed was to suppress Sui Ning and Ji Yunyu.

FR took blue side for Game 2, and they didn’t hold back — immediately banning Aeria, Fan’en, and Soul-Piercing Spear in the first rotation. With PNG forced to ban White Bird and the Executioner, FR snapped up the current meta’s top-tier marksman, the Void Ranger.

Sui Ning wasn’t surprised. He asked his teammates to pick him the Winter Queen, silently swapping his Ignite for Teleport.

Game 2 turned into a classic support-heavy skirmish match.

After level 6, every one of Sui Ning’s teleports went toward supporting the bot lane.

But FR seemed to have figured out PNG’s weakness — in every small fight, they threw all their abilities onto Lin Zhaoxu, ensuring he died over and over without getting any experience or gold, suffering miserably each time.

This put Sui Ning in a very awkward position: although every gank he made yielded results, he was forced into becoming the magic-core carry — responsible for finding a way to take over the game in the late stage.

Compared to an attack-damage core, a magic-core carry has far less room for error: no sustained damage, no lifesteal, heavy reliance on skills, and even partial responsibility for initiating close-range team fights.

At 17 minutes, PNG’s bottom Tier 2 tower fell, and the enemy marksman, the Void Ranger, was already massively fed with a score of 5/2/3.

At 21 minutes and 38 seconds, FR secured the first Baron, then went on to take down the outer towers in mid and top lanes.

Around the 24-minute mark, a fight over the elemental dragon ended in a 3-for-1 trade for PNG. Although they managed to force out several key enemy abilities, the gold gap had widened to 5,000.

“This… this should be the first time PNG’s fallen behind by such a large margin,” Chao Mi said quietly, trying to keep the atmosphere upbeat. “But there’s still a chance!”

Li Yin sighed helplessly. “FR’s map control is airtight — PNG’s resources are completely locked down. They’ll need a miracle team fight to turn this around.”

At 28 minutes, the second Baron spawned.

PNG managed to kill FR’s mid-laner first, but a fully equipped Yu Gao went berserk and scored a Quadra Kill.

[Quadra Kill!]

[FR_Gaogao (Void Ranger) is Legendary!]

Some fans in the arena couldn’t bear to watch anymore.

Meanwhile, the livestream chat was flooded with messages like “GG,” “Vote surrender,” and “Next game, hurry up.”

[No point dragging this out! Just move on to the next game!]

[Vote, vote, vote—]

[Wind tried his best… sigh. Gao-zi’s being way too ruthless to his junior.]

[Wind’s items are stacked; can he at least burst one down? …sigh.]

[Don’t go! Just wave-clear. If someone dies now, they’ll get ended in one push QuQ]

FR once again took position in the Baron pit.

At the same spot as in Game 1 — the critical moment — Sui Ning dove in from behind and instantly killed Yu Gao.

FR had already burned most of their abilities, while Sui Ning still had his ultimate, Stopwatch, and Flash ready. With the help of Baron’s relentless attacks, knock-ups, and armor reduction aura, PNG successfully turned the fight around.

[Quadra Kill!]

[Ace!]
