Chapter 33: Improper Thoughts

The man looked toward the person trapped in his illusion not far away, then leaned close to Qin Zheng’s ear with a teasing tone and whispered, “Watch closely. It's rare for me to play the good guy.”

“You’re about to learn something interesting.”

Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly paused as if he remembered something, turned around, and reminded, “He won’t be able to hear your voice while inside my illusion, so you might as well just watch quietly.”

“With your current body, don’t waste your strength doing anything foolish. Don’t make me angry.”

With that, the man entered the illusion, taking control of the fake Qin Zheng to begin the act.

Qin Zheng listened to his cryptic words with growing confusion, but he couldn’t move—

His body was restrained. All he could do was watch everything happening inside the illusion.

Inside, Qin Su hadn’t realized he was trapped. He continued walking with the fake Qin Zheng, who mirrored Qin Zheng’s earlier behavior—observing the surroundings, occasionally making comments.

The performance was on a different level from when the man had pretended to be Qin Su earlier. That time, it was clearly just for fun.

Qin Zheng watched, stunned by how flawlessly the imposter mimicked his every move. Even the tone of voice and mannerisms were identical—it really looked like he was walking alongside Qin Su.

To his surprise, the man had kept his word—Qin Zheng could actually hear their conversation.

Though they seemed to keep moving forward, in reality, they hadn’t moved at all.

Qin Zheng couldn’t yet figure out what the impostor was trying to achieve.

Suddenly, the fake Qin Zheng turned around and began walking backward while smiling brightly at Qin Su.

“Junior brother…”

Qin Su, who had been observing their surroundings, turned to look at him when he heard his voice.

The fake Qin Zheng asked smugly, “Do you like me?”

Qin Zheng was stunned.

He himself would never have the guts to ask such a direct question!

Though Qin Zheng was eager to hear the answer, he knew Qin Su's personality. When they were younger, he might’ve openly said “yes,” but now—quiet and reserved—he probably wouldn’t say anything at all.

Still, Qin Zheng’s heart pounded with anticipation: I’m looking forward to the answer.

If Qin Su still had a good impression of him, the things would be much better.

Qin Su stopped walking and looked quietly at him. Qin Zheng’s heart beat inexplicably and shouted: Say it! Say it!

Then the corners of Qin Su’s mouth lifted slightly as he answered gently, “Yes.”

Qin Zheng was frozen. In this life and the last, he had never seen his junior smile at him like that!

Qin Su’s smile made him seem like a completely different person.

And—did he just admit he still liked him?

Qin Zheng’s eyes narrowed, his lips curving upward uncontrollably.

For some reason, he just felt incredibly happy.

The fake Qin Zheng, with an expression identical to Qin Zheng’s real one, stepped closer to Qin Su.

Looking him straight in the eye, he said naturally, “I like you too.”

His tone was exactly how Qin Zheng imagined himself confessing to someone he liked.

The two stood there, eyes locked. It was impossible to know what Qin Su was thinking.

As Qin Su remained silent, Qin Zheng noticed the fake him getting closer and closer, their faces almost touching—about to kiss.

The posture was eerily similar to when the man earlier had tried to absorb spiritual energy from him.

This was bad! Qin Su was in danger!

Qin Zheng shouted, “Hey! Don’t use my face to do that kind of thing!”

How could his beautiful junior brother be defiled by someone else?!

But the man ignored him completely.

Just as the two were about to kiss, another Qin Su suddenly appeared behind the original one.

This Qin Su watched with amusement as his clone and the fake Qin Zheng kissed.

The fake Qin Zheng pulled back instantly, seemingly sensing something was wrong.

He stared at Qin Su in disbelief. “Impossible! A mere cultivator saw through my illusion?!”

Seeing that Qin Su wasn’t fooled, Qin Zheng finally let out a breath of relief.

If Qin Su hadn’t realized that imposter was fake, then he deserved to have his spiritual energy sucked out!

He and Qin Su clearly shared only brotherly feelings—using romance as bait? Of course it failed!

And he even tried to kiss him!

The man claimed to see through people’s desires and emotions, yet turned out to be blind after all.

Qin Su looked coldly at the fake Qin Zheng. “Though I wish it were real, you’re not him.”

“Your illusion is impressive—I didn’t detect it. But there’s something between him and me that you’ll never be able to imitate.”

The man’s expression suddenly lit up with interest.

“How interesting.”

He finally dropped the illusion and returned to his true form.

“I don’t want to fight you either. Let’s settle this with a bet.”

“Back in the day, I bet with Yu Jingchen. I lost and got sealed here.”

“Since you claim to share such a deep bond, let’s see if you can find him in this illusion.”

“If you can’t find him within half an hour, you lose and let me go. But if you do, I’ll allow myself to be sealed again.”

Qin Zheng looked down at himself. He wasn’t in the illusion.

This man was playing dirty.

And yet, to Qin Zheng’s surprise, Qin Su didn’t hesitate at all. He nodded and said, “Deal.”

Seeing his plan accepted, the man smirked. “Seems you’re confident.”

“You can start now. He might be a leaf, a tree, a blade of grass…”

Qin Zheng looked at Qin Su anxiously.

I’m not a leaf or a tree—I’m standing outside the illusion! Qin Su can’t possibly find me!

Sure enough, once the man declared the game had begun, Qin Su stood still, unmoving.

The man stepped out of the illusion and walked up to Qin Zheng, grinning. “Kids are so easy to trick.”

Qin Zheng glanced sideways at him. “Didn’t expect someone even more shameless than me.”

Time passed. The man cheerfully added, “Almost half an hour now. I told you—my illusions aren’t so easy to break.”

Just as he finished speaking, Qin Su—who had been standing still the whole time—suddenly moved.

Qin Zheng hadn’t expected it at all. Qin Su turned around and calmly walked in the direction where Qin Zheng was standing, stopping directly in front of him. Though nothing should have been visible, Qin Su looked as if he clearly saw something.

He reached out—and grabbed Qin Zheng’s hand.

The binding spell on Qin Zheng was immediately lifted.

At the same time, the entire illusion shattered and disappeared.

Only the two of them remained, holding hands.

The man standing to the side first looked stunned, then slowly grew calm.

“I admit defeat.”

****
After Qin Su resealed the man, Qin Zheng couldn’t hold back his curiosity and asked, “How did you find me just now?”

Qin Su glanced at him and replied, “I always knew you were standing right there.”
