ALIBEC: Chapter 104 - Where Did the Opportunity Come from?

“Why is Mior pinging top lane? What’s that about?” Qing Ci rubbed his chin. “Surely he’s not warning Myerii about a top-lane gank? PNG should already know JGNoob is pathing downward.”

Chao Mi: “Probably not. Maybe he switched his camera to top lane—we can’t see it on our end yet—”

Before he could finish, the director almost prophetically cut the camera to top lane, catching Wei Ye missing a minion and getting hit by GEN’s top laner’s skill at the same time.

Chao Mi: …

Qing Ci burst out laughing. “Hahaha—cough. Maybe the two sides were trading earlier, and Mior saw his teammate whiff abilities and was telling him to play it safe and back off a bit.”

[LMAOOO Wild Dad’s reputation is ruined—he finally built that top-lane king image last game and it collapses immediately!]

[Spread the word, Wei Ye’s persona has fallen apart! (lol)]

[It’s over, Wild Dad is finished (crying)]

[All those celebrities whose personas collapsed never imagined someone would join their ranks by missing CS + getting smacked…]

[You expect me to believe Mior is that kind-hearted? If he were really warning someone, wouldn’t it be the support? What, he’s not laning anymore? Judging by PNG’s usual mic shenanigans, I bet these pings are pure taunts.

[Is there a possibility that Mior just can’t macro while laning yet?]

[Got it, spread the word—Mior is trash!]

——

With no interference, Ji Yunyu cleared his jungle smoothly and hit level 4. Right on cue, GEN’s opening defensive ward expired. Free wards have a 120-second cooldown, which meant GEN would be extremely vulnerable for the next two minutes.

GEN knew this well. Qiu Feichen judged that Ji Yunyu was pathing bottom to top, mirroring Zhong Ye’s clear, and urgently warned, “Brother Quan, be careful—they might dive top!”

Wu Quan, who had just been brutally camped last game, was speechless. “Is top lane their dad or something??”

Complaining didn’t help. After pushing the wave, Sui Ning didn’t linger mid. The instant he disappeared from vision, dozens of retreat pings from his teammates slammed onto Wu Quan’s screen.

“Is there any justice left?” Wu Quan glared at his juicy wave and fumed. “Last game, it was the Blood Count; you camped top to feed the carry, and I put up with it. This game he’s playing a damn Treant, and you’re still camping top?? You really think GEN top lane is free real estate?!”

“Don’t, bro, don’t get impulsive!” Zhong Ye hurried to calm him down. “It’s three of them, and our mid has no lane priority! Run! If that Treant roots you, you’re dead!”

Damn it—I could’ve pressured him! Wu Quan nearly ground his teeth to dust, but could only swallow the pain and give up the wave.

Unfortunately, PNG’s three-man dive wasn’t about to leave empty-handed. Wei Ye and Ji Yunyu took turns tanking tower shots, and with Sui Ning’s damage they successfully killed Wu Quan under the turret.

[PNG_Wind (Phantom Trickster) has slain GEN_Roy (Soul-Sealing Blade Demon)!]

[First Blood!]

“First blood is drawn!! A classic PNG tower dive—Roy burned Flash and still couldn’t escape!” Chao Mi exclaimed excitedly. Just as he was about to heap on the praise, the director cut to bot lane. “Bot lane is fighting too! While PNG’s mid and jungle are top, JGNoob doesn’t idle and goes for a gank bot—any chance? Q skill to start—Mior stays calm and instantly Flashes!”

Chao Mi rattled off at high speed, eyes glued to the screen. “PNG’s marksman and support choose to retreat—that’s the right call! The power of a 3v2 is far less than a 3v1; GEN forcing a tower dive is unlikely! Once under tower, it’s safe, and Mior still has Heal!”

Zhong Ye forced Lin Zhaoxu’s Flash, so the gank wasn’t a total waste—but compared to first blood, GEN still lost big.

Chao Mi continued, “Not sure if everyone noticed a detail: when GEN went bot, Mior’s HP was still very healthy when GEN showed. If he’d been poked down to half or low HP earlier, even burning both summoners he could’ve died—GEN’s support still had Ignite. This shows Hak’s Executioner didn’t gain much advantage in lane and failed to chunk Mior’s health.”

“That ten-plus seconds of Wind standing still earlier really put GEN in a bind—now the chain reaction is showing.”

Qing Ci added, “Once Wind went missing mid, Hak didn’t dare push bot and could only farm peacefully with Mior, wasting chances to poke. Now, even when the jungler comes, there’s nothing to do. An Executioner farming peacefully against White Bird will only lose out later.”

“And they wasted their ward earlier. Now GEN’s top-lane vision had been gone for less than two seconds when PNG’s mid and jungle arrived in the brush—they timed the gank perfectly! Roy clearly knew he was about to be ganked and was already backing off, but against three people, with no vision, he couldn’t tell where PNG would come from.”

Qing Ci shuddered. “I was just thinking—PNG’s timing was so precise. Did Wind calculate that Roy would place a ward during that standstill mid? If so, you could literally count when it would expire.”

Chao Mi froze. “No way—if that’s true, that’s terrifying. GEN would be completely exposed! I think it was more likely Myerii spotted the ward.”

Qing Ci didn’t argue, but inwardly remained unconvinced. Wu Quan wasn’t new to pro play—he shouldn’t be stupid enough to place an anti-gank ward right in front of the enemy. That would basically tell PNG: there’s a ward here, don’t gank from this side.

Regardless of the commentator’s guesses, Wu Quan dying once and losing a massive wave gave PNG’s top lane some much-needed relief. Ji Yunyu also successfully dodged Zhong Ye’s strongest early windows, and the jungle matchup would become much smoother going forward. The game gradually slipped back into PNG’s familiar rhythm.

PNG’s style has always been ruthless: once they gain an advantage, they keep rolling it into a snowball. As soon as the Rift Herald spawned at 8 minutes, Ji Yunyu secured it. GEN anticipated this; Zhong Ye did the math and knew he couldn’t contest in time, so he rallied his team to the bottom side to take the dragon.

“GEN sends four to the dragon pit trying to secure it. PNG’s jungler isn’t here, but they still want to contest. All abilities are up; Mior’s long range lets him look for poke—gotta watch out for Midc’s ultimate engage—another QE combo hits JGNoob! Now what? Their jungler’s HP is around 70%, not exactly healthy—do they still start the dragon?”

GEN hesitated for a moment, then decided to start the dragon anyway.

Sui Ning immediately said, “They’ve got Smite—we can’t out-Smite them. Look for a chance to catch someone.”

“OK.”

Chao Mi: “GEN’s comp takes dragons pretty fast. Maomao is coming around from the river—looks like they’re swapping the support in to tank the dragon damage, so JGNoob’s HP doesn’t get too low. That’s very smart! Wind’s Phantom Trickster is hovering nearby looking for an opening. The dragon hits hard—if JGNoob keeps tanking, he’ll easily drop into Wind’s execute range! If the jungler dies, this dragon becomes a huge question mark!”

“They already lost the Herald earlier, so GEN really wants to secure this dragon cleanly to patch up the gold gap.”

That was indeed GEN’s thinking. Qiu Feichen sounded a bit anxious: “Play it safe, play it safe—watch the dragon’s HP!”

“Their jungler isn’t here, no Smite—they can’t steal it!”

“Bullshit—didn’t you get your dragon stolen by an auto attack before?!”

“Midc is zoning Mior, holding his ult—but honestly, White Bird’s threat at this timing still isn’t great. Even if he lands CC, the damage is too low to burst anyone; he has to coordinate with the marksman Hak!”

Qing Ci shook his head helplessly. “The problem is, Wind is also watching Hak. Both mids are locking onto the opposing marksman. Every step Hak takes risks, getting instantly deleted by Fran. Look at his positioning—you could call it walking on thin ice. On the other side, Midc clearly isn’t putting that kind of pressure on Mior, so Mior has a lot more room to output. White Bird’s long-range poke isn’t amazing, but it’s more than enough to make GEN miserable.”

The dragon kept roaring and breathing fire, hitting Qiu Feichen with each blow. After nearly 20 seconds of stalemate, Chen Xiaoyun said calmly, “Let it go. We can’t fight this—our state’s bad.”

“Huh??”

The teammates were taken aback. Chen Xiaoyun continued, “I’ll go catch White Bird—who’s going to contain Fran?” On top of that, dragon aggro was still on them; even if they secured it, they might lose someone.

It was just a drake, not a game-deciding Baron.

Seeing no one respond right away, Chen Xiaoyun added, “If we let it go, they can’t take it either. Back off.”

Qiu Feichen obeyed and pulled out of the pit. The dragon quickly dropped aggro and began regenerating.

“GEN’s backing off!” Qingci raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Continuing could’ve been working for PNG, sure—but pulling out like this means they’ve basically lost the Herald for nothing! Once Cloud drops the Herald to crash a tower, it’s going to be even harder for GEN.”

Chao Mi said, “If you think about it, GEN doesn’t really have a good solution. White Bird desperately needs levels, and in this lineup he just doesn’t fit with teammates who want to build early advantages through fighting. The Executioner’s damage falls off compared to other marksmen the later the game goes; same for the Monk. When White Bird’s ult finally comes online, who’s actually dealing damage for GEN? Who can they kill within a tight 2.5-second chain CC window?”

“Besides, White Bird’s control is silence—soft CC—not hard CC like stuns. The enemy can still move! This comp would be fine if you swapped mid for a late-game carry mage, or an early-game assassin, or even a utility pick. But putting White Bird here is just… lacking.”

GEN’s problems had grown so obvious that even the casters could see them. Chao Mi kept his wording polite for the broadcast, but the fans watching online had no such restraint.

[Alright then, so who’s taking the blame—coach or Midc?]

[Midc is brain-dead, spamming White Bird every day. You call that pro play? Go home and raise pigs.]

[ Raising pigs takes skill—Midc’s atrophied cerebellum couldn’t handle it.]

[What year is it and you’re still playing these ancient relics? Even TL’s Amor used to avoid assassin mids, but after getting smashed by PNG this patch, he adjusted and focused on laning. And you, Midc, still picking this dumb hero with zero lane priority. If I were JGNoob, I’d already be flaming.]

[? Don’t drag Cheng into this, that’s disrespectful.]

[Banning five mages every game had me thinking teams really cared about mid lane—then they pick heroes even grandma’s cousin wouldn’t play. Where does that confidence come from? Wind can turn niche picks into meta, push Aeria from bottom-ten mage usage to top three. If she were any simpler, she’d be first in pick rate. He makes the entire high-rank CN server follow suit—can you?]

[It’s the playoffs—pack it up already.]

[Sigh, ten-year GEN fan here. Can’t even cry anymore. Just… whatever.]

GEN retreated dejectedly, and PNG, playing it safe, chose not to take the dragon either. At 9 minutes, Ji Yunyu dropped the Herald top, breaking the enemy’s first turret and freeing their frontline, Wei Ye, to roam and fight at will.

Wu Quan angrily gulped down two mouthfuls of iced water, nearly smashing the desk with a charged punch. He had the edge against Wei Ye in lane, yet his turret fell first—whose fault was that? Do you even have to ask? What were his teammates doing??

PNG rotated tempo and pressured both outer lanes. The relentless offensive pace left GEN gasping for air, eerily reminiscent of their earlier disastrous games. At 14:30, PNG demolished GEN’s bottom inner turret right in front of five defenders. Seeing this, Qing Ci sighed, silently thinking that GEN was now largely beyond saving.

To turn this around, they’d probably need a miracle. Helpless, Qing Ci tried to comfort GEN fans with a bit of optimistic spin: “The deficit is pretty big—it’ll depend on whether GEN can stall. There’s still a chance in the late game!”

[What chance? The enemy’s double carries are monsters late, plus three hard-engage CC champs—tell me where the chance is.]

[With this garbage GEN comp, if you don’t snowball early you might as well FF.]

[My suggestion is to start the vote.]

[It’s already past three—time for tea. Why watch this garbage match?]

[Making me watch games like this all day—aside from getting mad I can do nothing! Can’t even throw these trash players and their chairs out, and it’s wrecking my health!!]

The viewers weren’t wrong. Forget whether PNG would even give you a comeback opportunity—just looking at GEN’s draft, it doesn’t look like a comeback comp at all.

At 21 minutes, GEN’s Nexus fell. The match reached series point, with PNG leading 2–0.
